CHARLIE CARROLL
Charlie Carroll came to Royse City in the spring of 1986, which would be his first football season leading the Attack Pack. The Bulldogs went 5-4-1 that year and were thrilled as they hadn’t had a winning season in 20 years. The next year they went on to 9-2 and won district, marking the Bulldogs’ first playoff game since 1967. In Coach Carroll’s third season, Royse City went 7-4 and came in second and advanced to one of the most memorable playoff games in Bulldog history. He left the district in the spring of 1992.
Coach Carroll then joined the education administration ranks for a few years, but came back and coached a few more years at Royse City under Coach Robert Wilcox and Coach Rodney Webb before he retired. Coach Carroll however, continued to serve the community and the Royse City School District for two terms as a school board member. To this day, Carroll remains a close mentor and friend to several ex-students and athletes that were fortunate enough to be taught and coached by him. A highly regarded coach and an even greater source of inspiration for his students, friends, and athletes who achieved success under his guidance.
KAYLA DEAL
A 2019 graduate of RCHS, Kayla Deal will go down as one of the best Girls Track and Field athletes to come through Royse City. Kayla leaves behind a legacy of excellence from her time as a Lady Bulldog, holding two school records that still stand: the 400M dash with a time of 56.92; the 4x200 Relay with a time of 1:42.28 along with members Paula Briscoe, Aryiana Bownes, and Kayla Hutchins.
Kayla’s exceptional legacy started her freshman year where she was a Regional Qualifier in the 4x200 Relay and the 4x400 Relay. She’d go on to qualify again for the Area Meet her sophomore in the 4x200 Relay again. Much like a lot of growth in athletes, Kayla saw another jump in her accolades her junior year tacking on a Regional Qualifier in the 400M Dash, 4x400 Relay, and High Jump. As a senior, she’d go on to Regionals for a third time in the open 400M, High Jump, and both the 4x200 and 4x400 Relays. Her final two years of high school would land her on the All-State Track and Field list - one of the hardest accomplishments to reach in an athletic career.
CAMERON HOLLINESS
Cameron Holliness was a three-sport athlete during his time at RCHS - football, basketball, and track & field. A 2004 Bulldog graduate, Cameron saw numerous accomplishments in his time. His most prominent sport, football, Cameron excelled in the running back position for the Bulldogs. In 2003, Holliness was a member of one of the most decorated football teams in RCHS history, a team who would reach the state semifinals, but ultimately fall short to a tough Abilene Wylie team (28-0). This team would post an 11-3 season record which included a district championship that Holliness helped back. His junior season he’d post a 1st Team All-District title and a 2nd Team All-District title his senior year. In track and field, Cameron helped to push a 4x100 Relay all the way to Regionals where they would barely miss out on a shot as State Champions.
Following high school, Cameron went on to be an All-American for the Sul Ross State University Lobos Football team and still remains in the Top 10 in average yards rushed for the Lobos (2009).
RODERICK ROBERSON JR.
Roderick Roberson Jr., a 3-star recruit, two-time All-District Safety, and 5A All-State Honorable Mention, concluded his high school career with impressive statistics, including 55 tackles (39 solo), 2 blocked field goals, and 7 kick-off returns for 154 yards during his senior year as the starting safety for the Bulldogs. In his junior year, he set a strong foundation for his career by recording 57 tackles (43 solo), forcing 2 fumbles, and recovering 3 fumbles, accumulating a total of 525 career all-purpose yards over two seasons.
Roberson received offers from North Texas, New Mexico State, and SMU, ultimately choosing to remain close to home by joining the Mustangs football team. Despite redshirting and dealing with injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic, he participated in 26 games while at SMU, amassing 54 total tackles. In 2023, he transferred to Louisiana Tech to finish out his football journey where he would once again... be a Bulldog. Last season, he achieved a career-high of 10 tackles against Western Kentucky, finishing the season overall with 30 tackles over 12 games. Roderick is currently in the middle of concluding a lengthy and successful football career with the Bulldogs.
