Rouse & Roberts will represent Royse City ISD as district teachers of the year and vie for the regional honor later this summer. WR FORT ELEMENTARY PRINCIPAL WENDY PRATER
Building strong relationships with teachers, students and parents, Wendy Prater has created a positive and collaborative student-centered learning environment at Fort Elementary in Royse City ISD. Under Prater’s leadership, Fort Elementary’s focus on relationship-building has contributed to higher student achievement, higher teacher retention and higher community engagement. Prater’s exceptional leadership and commitment to learners on her campus have led her to be named the 2024 NAESP National Distinguished Principal of the Year for Texas by the Texas Elementary Principals and Supervisors Association (TEPSA).
OUIDA BALEY MS PRINCIPAL ANGELEE MORALES
Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) Executive Director Archie McAfee attended the board meeting to recognize Principal Angelee Morales as 2024 Texas Principal of the Year. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals from the twenty regional Education Service Centers in the state. There are more than 6,000 principals and assistant principals in Texas public secondary schools. School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. Mrs. Morales has served as Ouida Baley Middle School principal since 2018.

The RCISD Counseling Department established a new student mentor program in 2023-24! In its first year of operation, district employees were partnered with students across the district. A few of those mentors were able to attend the June School Board Meeting in celebration of the new program. ur mentor program was created to help students feel they have someone cheering for them…in their corner.
According to Director of Counseling Melanie Acker, the RCISD Mentor Program was inspired by this Rita Pierson quote. “ Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be."

She was honored last week by the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) for the Teens Serving Texas Award and the TASSP All-State Academic Team at the statewide TASSP annual principal conference in Austin.
