CAMPUS SPOTLIGHT
Each month, the school board gets a glimpse into life on campus. The month of December brought a spotlight on Royse City High School. Principal Brooke McMaster praised her team of assistant principals and staff of 300. She shared that her role on campus allows her to see the dedication of staff in professional learning and planning for student success. RCHS continues to grow in both enrollment and opportunities for their 2,900 students. Watch to learn more about the amazing things happening at school!
RCHS VOLLEYBALL RECOGNITION
Head Coach Amanda Gonzales lauded the successes of her student athletes both on the court and in the classroom. This fall, the team advanced to the regional finals marking one of the most successful volleyball seasons in school history. Coach Gonzales also shared that every single player received the honor of Academic All District and all three senior athletes will continue on to collegiate volleyball. Individual accolades also include District 10-6A MVP for Kylee McCoy and Setter of the Year Alayna Howard.
FINANCE OFFICE RECEIVES SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT RATING
Chief Financial Officer Byron Bryant presented the annual School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report. The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes. The district is rated on 21 separate indicators and scored an overall 90 of 100 total points qualifying the district for a Superierior Rating.
STRATEGIC PLAN 3.0 UPDATE
Chief Communications Officer Adi Bryant shared a quick update with the board on the ongoing process to develop a new strategic plan for Royse City ISD. A committee of 40 convened earlier this month to take the beginning steps towards the development of new belief statements, mission, vision and strategic goals for the future. ELEMENTARY BOUNDARY ZONES APPROVED FOR 2025-2026
Chief Financial Officer Byron Bryant presented a proposed boundary map for elementary schools for the 2025-2026 school year. This process was prompted by the construction of Sara Moss Elementary which will open in August of 2025. Last month, the district issued a boundary map for community feedback. A public survey yielded 52 responses and an in-person input session was held on November 19 in the evening hours. Input from both the school board and the community resulted in some minor adjustments to the plan for families living south of RCHS on FM 35. The school board unanimously approved the map as presented. Click here to view the approved map.
2025-2026 SCHOOL CALENDAR APPROVED
Mr. Richard Pense provided the board with an update on the development of the 2025-2026 school calendar. Last month, two drafted calendars were issued to staff and families for a preference vote. Draft A was most favored in the more than 800 responses. As a result, Draft A was approved by the school board for the 2025-2026 school year. We hope that this approval will allow ample time for staff and families to plan for the future. Click here to view the calendar.
ENROLLMENT UPDATE
District-wide enrollment stands at 10,030 total students which is 566 more than December of 2023. Demographers anticipate that RCISD will add 800-1,000 students annually. Growth continues throughout the school year across our booming communities.
BOND 2023 UPDATE
Bond issuance is underway for many large projects in Bond 2023. The district’s 8th elementary school, Sara Moss Elementary, is well-underway in the Creekside development. Moss Elementary will open in August of 2025. Visible progress can be seen along FM 552 in Fate for Worthy Fate High School. This includes a three story academic wing of the future school that is set to open in August of 2027. Dirt work has begun at Magness Middle School just south of Royse City High School at the curve of FM 35 and CR 2584. Families can expect that school to open in August of 2026. You can find month-by-month updates on Bond 2023 and recently completed Bond 2021 at https://www.rcisd.org/page/growth.
