Happy Holidays! The RCISD School Board held a regularly scheduled meeting last night with a packed agenda of recognitions and action items. We aim to keep you informed and up-to-date on board activities with these brief recaps. As always, complete minutes from each meeting are publicly posted upon their approval each month for your reference.
STUDENT RECOGNITION
9th Grader Kylee Glosson shared an ongoing service project for 4H GLOBE Organization in which she is currently collecting hygiene products for students who may be unhoused or facing a crisis situation. She plans to pursue social work after high school. Collection boxes are located at Royse City High School.
FINANCE OFFICE RECEIVES SUPERIOR ACHIEVEMENT RATING
Chief Financial Officer Byron Bryant presented the annual School Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) report. The system is designed to encourage Texas public schools to better manage their financial resources to provide the maximum allocation possible for direct instructional purposes. The district is rated on 20 separate indicators and scored an overall 92 of 100 total points qualifying the district for a Superierior Rating.
2024-2025 ANNUAL DISTRICT CALENDAR APPROVED
The board unanimously approved the 2024-2025 Annual District Calendar after reviewing community feedback. The approved version is unchanged from the originally drafted calendar released to the public. Click here to view.
REZONING MAPS APPROVED - TO BEGIN AUGUST 2024
The board unanimously approved the 2024-2025 Elementary School Boundary Map and 2024-2025 & 2025-2026 Middle School Boundary Map to accommodate continued enrollment growth. This process was spurred by the construction of the district’s 7th elementary school in Waterscape as well as the 12-classroom expansion at Ouida Baley Middle School. Comments received at an in-person rezoning talk event and an online feedback form were considered as a part of this important process.
ENROLLMENT UPDATE
Total district enrollment reached 9,451 by December 11, 2023. Last month's board meeting recap showed 9,420 as of November 13, 2023.
BOND 2023 UPDATE
Royse City ISD is preparing to issue the first round of school building bonds to start work on the projects approved in the May 2023 Bond Election. Most notable in the package is the construction of high school #2, middle school #3 and numerous facilities to serve a rapidly growing community.
BOND 2021 UPDATE
Progress is easy to spot at Paula Walker Elementary School in Waterscape that is set to open in August of 2024. The construction of Royse City ISD Event Center (adjacent to RCISD Stadium) is also underway and will eventually be home to community events, school board meetings and district-wide professional development training. The former ag facility at RCHS is being renovated for a dance/cheer practice space and locker rooms for dance, cheer, baseball and softball.
